Frequently Asked Questions
Everything homeowners commonly ask before booking an EV charger installation.
Yes. Ontario requires an ESA (Electrical Safety Authority) permit and inspection for any EV charger circuit. This isn't optional, and skipping it can create real problems later — with your home insurance, with warranty claims, and when selling your home. We pull the permit and book the inspection as part of every install, so it's handled for you.
Not always. A Level 2 charger needs a dedicated 40-50A circuit, and whether your panel can support that depends on its size and how much capacity your home already uses. Many homes on a 100A or 125A panel can support a charger through smart load management instead of a full upgrade. We calculate this for free during your home assessment — you'll know for certain before any work begins, not after.
Hardwired chargers are wired directly into your electrical system with no plug — generally more reliable long-term, since there's no plug/receptacle connection that can loosen or wear over time, and some manufacturers require hardwiring for their maximum charging speed or full warranty.
Plug-in chargers connect to a dedicated outlet (like a NEMA 14-50), which makes it possible to unplug and take the charger with you if you move, or temporarily disconnect it. The tradeoff is a slightly higher long-term failure point at the plug connection, and marginally higher upfront cost for the outlet.
For most homeowners planning to stay long-term, we typically recommend hardwired. If flexibility matters more to you — renting, planning to move, or wanting the option to relocate the charger — plug-in is worth considering. We'll walk through which fits your situation during your assessment.
It depends mainly on what you drive and what matters most to you:
- Tesla Wall Connector — fastest charging if you drive a Tesla and plan to stick with the brand
- ChargePoint Home Flex — works with any EV, strong app features, good if you might switch vehicle brands
- Autel MaxiCharger — universal compatibility, rugged build, long cable reach, good outdoor durability
- FLO Home — Canadian-made, reliable in cold climates
- Grizzl-E — durable and budget-friendly
We're certified installers for Tesla and ChargePoint specifically, and happy to install any of the above. If you're not sure, tell us your vehicle and priorities during your free assessment and we'll give you a straight recommendation — not just whatever's easiest for us to install.
Yes. Most Level 2 home chargers, including the ones we install, are rated for outdoor mounting and built to handle GTA winters and summers. Outdoor installs are common for driveway parking where there's no garage. We'll confirm the exact mounting location and weatherproofing details during your assessment.
Most single-charger installs are completed in 3-5 hours, in a single visit. If a panel upgrade is required first, that adds a separate visit — we'll give you a clear timeline for both during your quote.
For most GTA homes, professional installation of a Level 2 charger — labour, permit, and inspection — typically falls somewhere in the $800–$1,500 range. This does not include the cost of the charger unit itself, which you can either supply or we can quote separately depending on the brand and model you choose. If a panel upgrade or load management is needed, that's an additional cost we'll quote separately and clearly.
These figures are a general guide, not a quote — the only way to get an exact number for your home is a free assessment, which gives you a flat, upfront price before any work starts.
